The next wave is already here, and they're playing every week.
Major League Soccer has never been younger, or more exciting. Through the opening months of the 2026 season, a new generation of teenage and U21 talent is forcing its way into starting lineups, earning European interest, and putting the broader soccer world on notice. These aren't prospects for tomorrow. They're producing today.
Julian Hall, NY Red Bulls, Age 18
Hall has been a known talent for years, but 2026 is when it's all clicked. Under coach Michael Bradley, he's been trusted in a central goalscoring role ahead of veteran Emil Forsberg, and he has delivered. He's netted five goals and two assists in the first eight games of Red Bull New York's campaign, all as a starter. At 5'9" with a filled-out frame, he's now physically equipped to match the explosiveness that made him famous as a teenager.
Duran Ferree, San Diego FC, Age 19
Being a teenage starting goalkeeper in professional soccer is rare. Doing it well is even rarer. Ferree has three clean sheets and 27 stops through seven MLS matches in 2026, while also standing out as one of the league's best distributors at his position with 311 successful passes. He's carrying a brand new franchise and not looking fazed by any of it.
Tate Johnson, Vancouver Whitecaps, Age 20
Johnson is the kind of player who quietly becomes indispensable before anyone notices. Now in his second season as Vancouver's starting left back, he stepped into the role as a teenager filling in for Canada international Sam Adekugbe, and in 2025 he was tasked with man-marking Lionel Messi in the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals, a series Vancouver won 5-1 on aggregate. Composed, consistent, and still improving.
Luca Bombino, San Diego FC, Age 19
Bombino played over 2,500 minutes as San Diego's starting left back in 2025, was central to the club earning the top seed in the Western Conference playoffs, and quickly put any sophomore slump concerns to rest with strong early performances in the 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup. European clubs have been watching for a while now.
Cavan Sullivan, Philadelphia Union, Age 16
Sullivan is doing something that almost no 16-year-old anywhere in the world is doing right now: playing regular professional soccer and looking like he belongs. He became the then-youngest player to debut for a North American major league sports team at 14 years and 293 days old, and the second-youngest player in MLS history to start a match. Now in his third professional season, the records keep coming. In February 2026 he scored two goals and added two assists in a 7-0 Champions Cup win over Defence Force, becoming the youngest American goalscorer in CONCACAF Champions Cup history in the process. Go back even further and at just 13 years old he helped the Philadelphia Union U15 squad reach the Generation Adidas Cup final, beating academy teams from Valencia, Arsenal, and Real Madrid along the way.
He already has a pre-contract with Manchester City waiting for him when he turns 18. He is still in high school. The ceiling is impossible to calculate.
Zavier Gozo, Real Salt Lake, Age 20
Gozo made 22 starts for Real Salt Lake in 2025, finishing with 4 goals and 3 assists, with all of his assists coming in the final month of the regular season as he hit top gear. Versatile across the forward line and growing in confidence, he is one of the more underrated young attackers in the league.
Peyton Miller, New England Revolution, Age 18
Miller reportedly turned down a significant Premier League move this winter to stay in MLS for another season, where he could push toward 3,000 minutes under new head coach Marko Mitrovic. That kind of decision at 18 says a lot about his maturity. The ability was never in question.
